Today it’s practically a thousand degrees in New York, so I’m running around town in a short dress and flats. But on a typical summer day when the temperatures are more moderate, you can find me in my usual uniform: vintage inspired jeans, a button down shirt, and a special accessory. I can make hundreds of outfits just using that simple formula. The only problem is that I currently have favorites, and I often find myself reaching for the same pair of jeans, the same button down, and the same accessory.
I’m not kidding you, I have discovered the best summer denim, the best summer shirt, and the best summer necklace. I know it’s a little much to speak in such absolutes, but I’m love with these three pieces.
I can’t even tell you how perfect these jeans are. They’re high rise and sit wonderfully on your natural waist. The denim is really soft and light, so you don’t feel constricted or hot during the warmer days. And the fit is everything, a straight leg with a nicely tapered ankled. Plus they come in a variety of different washes and distress levels depending on your taste. I have the Distressed Fade Out, which in my opinion is the perfect blue for summer.
You know I love my button down shirts, so it’s hard to call one the best. But lately I can’t get enough of this short sleeve boyfriend shirt. Again, the fabric is so light and breezy for summer. It looks great tucked in or left out. And I just love that it’s short sleeve – it’s like an elevated version of a classic white tee (another summer staple!).
I discovered Cara Brown Designs earlier this year (if you haven’t already read the story you should, it’s a great one!). Since then, I’ve considered her Horse Brass necklace a must-have statement piece for the season. I’m literally pairing it with everything, from shorts and summer dresses, to blazers and formal wear. I especially love it as part of my uniform, it instantly completes the whole look.
