STYLE NOTES #2
THE SHOE TREND I’M LOVING RIGHT NOW
I’ve started seeing metallic loafers more and more out there, and I have to say that I’m really into them. Especially the silver ones. They look so chic paired with jeans and a button down or even a crisp white dress (once it gets warmer out). I’ve seen heeled loafers, flat ones, even metallic mules – and I love them all. I recently got these from Zara, but I’m on the hunt for the perfect pointed toe flat pair. Will keep you posted when I find them!
MY TRICK FOR ALWAYS KEEPING MY COUCH CLEAN
You may have noticed from my apartment decor post last week that I have a white couch. I know it’s not the safest color choice, even the sales woman thought I was crazy when I chose it. But I grew up always having white couches in our home, so keeping it clean is second nature to me. My secret weapon? The Muji Lint Roller. Keeping shoes and drinks off the couch is easy to prevent stains. But the best way to maintain it lint and fuzz free is with Muji’s industrial strength lint roller. Every time I roll my couch with it, it ends up looking like new. And since the roller is so large, it incidentally smoothes out any folds or creases on the cushions – a nice added bonus.
THE TONER I USE DAILY
I once shared a cab with celebrity facialist Georgia Louise (long, random story), and she told me the most important thing you can do for your face is to tone daily. She told me a sweet story about how her mother had taught her that when she was a young girl, long before she became a skincare expert. Since that cab ride, I’ve used Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 1970 toner on my face every morning and night. It exfoliates, hydrates, and balances pH all in one step. Be warned though, this toner is quite strong smelling and feeling (i.e., tingling on your skin), but the results are completely worth it. I wouldn’t suggest it if you have sensitive skin, but if you’re looking for a powerful toner with proven results, definitely give it a try.
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE VEGAN TREAT
I don’t have a huge sweet tooth, but my mom recently introduced me to the Vegan Vanilla Cake at Whole Foods, and it is SO GOOD. They have it in the prepared food area, so anytime Scott and I are grocery shopping we take a peek to see if they’re serving it that day. Apparently there is also a chocolate version (which my mom likes even more), but I’m a vanilla girl so I wouldn’t opt for that one. Honestly though, I would take this cake over a non-vegan cake any day, it’s that good. Look for it the next time you’re shopping in Whole Foods, I promise you won’t miss the eggs and butter!
